I am not a defender of Che’s brutal actions or the horrific unintended consequences of his actions. However, Murray Rothbard, who you have included in the logo for your blog, wrote a obituary for Che Guevara praising him as a “heroic figure,” and “the living embodiment of the principle of Revolution.” Rothbard also claimed Che had a “mighty heart” and “daring courage.” Strangely enough Rothbard also states that Che’s “enemy was our enemy.” I think it is worth a look, and it is hosted on the Mises Institute’s website. Just a second opinion on the man.

every country on earth has barriers to innovation and competition that fall under 3 major categories
ordered according to typical stages of progress, they are:
1) a lack of protection from thuggish coercion by businesses/gangs/cartels/churches/etc..
2) intervention by the state to directly control the market, often at the request of the public, or at least with sincere good intent
3) establishing complex lobbying and litigation systems that unfairly favor wealthy interests, enabling them to reshape the law at will in response to challenges in the market
that system is the basis of various tools that can be used to formally stifle competition, such as:
patents, copyright as applied to technical data, and anti-reverse-engineering provisions in various laws allow mega-corps to categorize competition as illegal in order to justify thuggery by the state
copyright, trademarks, slander, libel, used to prevent anyone from so much as referring to a company’s products
contract systems that enable major corps to bind smaller players to exclusivity deals, and to control every major information and distribution medium with cartel-style deals that prohibit new entry into the market
it’s unfortunate that people who want to stop oppressive mega corporations so often fail to see the problem and champion the right of the state to intervene in the market, which plays into corporate hands because it’s exactly the tool that the corps are easily perverting to do their dirty work
corporations need people to believe in a totalitarian government that has the unquestionable authority to do whatever it pleases with no limitations, including getting involved in otherwise peaceful and passive affairs in order to enforce a “greater good”
the corps have no trouble perverting an invasive government, but they can be only as oppressive as a country’s constitution and aversion to state intervention will allow

ROFL As a serious aside: I have lived in Mexico spending significant time with Mayan villages as part of an aid effort after Wilma. The poverty even today is mind boggling, and the corruption is an intrinsic fabric. I see no change on the horizon, and with the financial crisis its only strengthening the corrupt. Let’s see how they deal with the ever stronger cartels, as the U.S. does nothing of merit in response. I do not agree with Che’s methods of armed struggle, but I do understand the deep seated anger of latin Americans towards the ruling class.
Che Guevara might have been a murderer, but it was war (yes I know he was one of the people who started the revolution). A revolution is always a result of misery of the people and Che Guevara’s intensions were good. He really wanted to make things better but he tried it the wrong way.
Che Guevara was much more than a socialist and a marxist. He was a man of principle and a man of freedom (and a doctor before he became a revolutionist). He was a big hero of the Cuban revolution and the Cuban people loved him.
Things are rarely that black and white. Pretty much everything depends on the way you look at things. Do some research before you go making wild accusations and accept the fact that not everyone thinks and feels like you. You’re in no position to pass judgement. Think for yourself and form your own opinions about things.
Ps: Don’t come complaining that I’m some kind of communist or socialist because I’m not. I’m a sworn liberalist and capitalist and I respect Che Guevara for the man he was, not the political thoughts he had. His life was a truly revolutionary one and I would wear a Che Guevara shirt with pride.
