I’ve been reading quite a lot by John Morley over the past few weeks. Except he believed in a much smaller government, I find that he reminds me of one of our own beastly lefties – spewing out self-righteous platitudes about a future that the Tories about him kept insisting couldn’t be reached, and that would be nightmarish if anyone seriously tried to reach it. The only time he tried to do the right thing – ie, keep us out of the Great War – he got himself shafted by Churchill. Bah!

Which books of Morley were you reading, Sean?
On Compromise, his Indian speeches, some of his Miscellanies. All very lefty in tone, where not in substance.
He was useless shite that boy.
I was impressed with On Compromise & with his life of Cobden & of Gladstone too,
I will need to seek outthe first cited to see what you mean.
