One of the Greatest Films I Have Ever Seen

I watched this at a late night showing in London thirty years ago. I staggered astonished from the cinema and was never the same again. I have no doubt it influenced the works of Richard Blake.

  1. I’ve only seen La Strada and 8 1/2 by Fellini neither of which I liked at all. I’ll keep an eye out for this however. With the discussion of the inculcation of ideas through art it would be interesting to yours and others lists of films/books which had a great influence on them.

Despite not being my favourite film by a long shot the Shawshank Redemption (film) solidified my anti-prison view (I prefer fines or hangings).

  2. I usually judge a film about the Classical period by how accurately it deals with military matters – but there do not appear to be any battle scenes (or campaign-logistics matters) in this particular film.

Of course that does not mean that it is not a great work of art.
