There was a special “Science Now” radio 4 programme inthe 1970s on the benefits of smoking that Peter Evans apologised for at the beginning and the end, stressing that smoking did more overall harm than good but it nevertheless was half an hour of solid eulogy of smoking. It was most unusual.I wish I had recorded it or even thought to take notes.
