Tonight on Show 17 of the MisesUK.Org Podcast, Andy Duncan speaks with Tom Rogers about his Mises UK Essay, which was a runner-up in our 2017 Essay Competition. The essay was entitled, ‘Oil wars: Is this an accurate summary of US-led interventions in the Middle East of the 21st century?’. We explore that topic in a little more depth, as we approach nearly three decades of heavy western involvement in the Middle East since President Reagan pulled out the U.S. Marines from Lebanon, in 1984. We also talk about the human nature of warfare, the philosophy of Thomas Hobbes, and the book ‘Nineteen-Eighty-Four’, by George Orwell, amongst other subjects.

  1. Thank you very much, Andy, for inviting me to participate in your podcast. I certainly enjoyed the experience.

And thank you to the Ludwig von Mises Centre UK for considering my essay. Runner-up is better than nothing.

I hope the comments here (if any) aren’t too harsh.
