  1. My first political disagreement with my father (God rest his soul – he would have been 100 years old this Febuary 2nd).

    I was against the so called “Common Market” as a child, and he (at that time) was in favour of it.

    “You do not understand Paul – it is not a European government, it is a free trade club”.

    It gives me no pleasure to say that Harry Marks was wrong. I wish he had been correct – and the EEC (as it then was) had been like EFTA (just bigger).

    Although he changed his opinions a lot faster than some other people…….
